Job Description

The team provides full lifecycle electrical systems engineering for new Passenger Rail Vehicles. Responsibilities extend to interface management, supplier development and customer liaison.
The candidate will have experience in Electrical / Electronic Engineering and also have a proven demonstrable track record in the discipline of complex System Integration. Knowledge and awareness of other systems is desirable. Responsibilities stretch through the product lifecycle from concept, product development, test, through production, in-service support and finally decommission
An excellent knowledge of systems engineering and development, processes, methods and tools is essential. A good knowledge of product development processes and contribution to best practices is also highly desirable. The candidate should be able to demonstrate a track record of novel ideas and techniques which have been championed to provide measureable performance improvements.
The candidate will be an excellent negotiator and be experienced in technical supplier management and be able to demonstrate a proven track record in delivery.
The candidate will develop the long term vision and roadmap for future rail vehicle electrical systems and their integration into the vehicle. The candidate will also be accountable to review, develop and deliver solutions and innovations which deliver a competitive advantage.
The candidate will be commercially aware and be capable of delivering cost optimal solutions and be capable of providing cost and schedule estimates on complex engineering programs.
Behavioral competencies required include strong energy and drive, ability to lead, be part of a team, excellent negotiating and excellent written and verbal communication skills. The candidate will have the ability to coach new practitioners in systems engineering.
Other key attributes of the person / role include:
Strong rail vehicle electrical engineering knowledge is essential.
Excellent technical authoring skills and the ability to review, assess, and endorse designs.
The ability to develop strategies for problem solving and provide input to design solutions.
Leadership of design reviews and the ability to provide sound engineering judgment
Lead by example and promote Systems Engineering best practice.
The ability to manage multiple work streams, delegate and manage workload.
Able to review and judge the suitability of solutions and planned approach to coach / mentor new
practitioners in the field and be a role model for best practices.
Impact a range of customer, operational, project or service activities within own team and other teams whose work activities are closely related.
Implement new and creative ways of doing things to improve products, processes, tools and services, creates and applies different approaches to enhance standard processes and procedures
Have excellent industry knowledge and capable of representing at industry working groups.
